Box-Office Weekend: Captain America Remains #1
For a second consecutive weekend, Captain America: Brave New World held onto the top spot of the box-office weekend, although this weekend’s lead of $14 million was considerably smaller than last week’s $75.5 million margin.
In its second weekend of release, Captain America: Brave New World brought in $28.2 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, giving the film a cumulative total of $141.2 million. Meanwhile, NEON saw The Monkey debut in second place with $14.2 million taken in over the weekend. After claiming second place last weekend, Sony Pictures Releasing’s Paddington in Peru fell to third place where it added $6.5 million, bringing its two-week tally to $25.3 million. The DreamWorks Distribution release Dog Man held steady in fourth place where it added $5.9 million over the weekend to lift its four-week total to $78.8 million. Also holding its ground from last weekend, the CMC Pictures product Ne Zha 2 remained in fifth place where it added $4.4 million over the last three days to brings its overall total to $14.9 million.
As happened a week ago, last weekend’s third-place film dropped three spots to land in sixth place this weekend as Heart Eyes brought in $2.9 million for Paramount Pictures International in its third weekend of release, lifting its overall total to $26.8 million. The second debut in the top ten this weekend, Chhaava from Yash Raj Films, landed in seventh place where it took in $2.7 million, giving it a two-week total of $4.8 million. This pushed Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures’ Mufasa: The Lion King down a spot to eighth place where it brought in $2.5 million, giving the film a teen-week tally of $245.4 million. Just behind that (or, possibly beside it), The Unbreakable Boy opened in ninth place where it made $2.5 million over its first weekend in release. Finally, Sony Pictures Releasing saw One of Them Days fall two spots to claim tenth place this weekend with $1.4 million. This gives the film a six-week total of $46.0 million.
Three films were again forced from the top ten this weekend as the sixth-, ninth- and tenth-place films from a week ago all failed to make this weekend’s list. First of all, after three weeks in release, the Universal Pictures product Love Hurts leaves the top ten with an overall total of $14.5 million. Meanwhile, sporting a four-week total of $20.1 million, Warner Bros. saw last week’s ninth-place finisher, Companion drop from the top ten this week, as did Becoming Led Zeppelin which itself had brought in $7.4 million over the last three weeks.
