Box-Office Weekend: Civil War Stays on Top
For a second consecutive weekend, Civil War held the top spot of the box-office weekend, albeit by a mere margin of $0.9 million.
In its second week of release, A24’s Civil War brought in $11.1 million for the studio, to raise its overall total to $44.9 million. This proved just enough to best the Universal Pictures release Abigail which debuted in second place with $10.2 million over the weekend. Meanwhile, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was forced to third place where it added $9.5 million to lift its four-week total to $171.6 million for Warner Bros. Studios. The Crunchyroll release Spy x Family Code: White debuted in fifth place with $4.9 million.
Dropping two spots over the weekend to land in sixth place was Kung Fu Panda 4 which took in $4.6 million for Universal Pictures in its seventh week of release. This brings the film’s overall total to $180.0 million. Falling four spots to take seventh place this weekend was Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire with $4.4 million. This brings the Sony Pictures Releasing product’s five-week total to $102.9 million. After finishing in eighth place last weekend, The Long Game departs with a two-week total of $2.3 million. Meanwhile, the re-release of Shrek 2 just couldn’t make the top ten again this weekend after landing in ninth place last week, instead settling for a two-week tally of $3.0 million.
