Box-Office Weekend: Creed Wins Title


A new king of the box-office weekend was crowned as Creed III dominated the weekend by knocking out last weekend’s champion by $46.2 million.

"Creed III" posterDebuting atop the box-office weekend top ten, Creed III brought in $58.7 million. In a distant second place was last weekend’s firs-place finisher, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which brought in $12.5 million in its third weekend of release, lifting its overall total to $186.8 million. The crowning of a new champion also dropped Cocaine Bear a spot to third place with $11 million earned over the weekend. This brings the film’s two-week total of $41.3 million. Meanwhile, the animated Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village debuted in the weekend’s fourth spot with $10.1 million. All of this movement left last weekend’s third-place film, Jesus Revolution in fifth place with $8.7 million and a two-week tally of $30.5 million.

Falling two spots to finish in sixth place was Avatar: The Way of Water with $3.6 million brought in over the weekend. This raises the film’s twelve-week total of $670.6 million. The third debut of the weekend, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, opened in seventh place with $3.2 million to show for it’s first three days of release. Falling three spots and landing in eighth-place was the animated Puss in Boots: The Last Wish which added $2.7 million over the weekend to bring the film’s eleven-week total to $177.1 million. Also tumbling three spots to finish in ninth-place was Magic Mike’s Last Dance which made $1.2 million in its fourth weekend of release to raise the film’s overall total to $25.4 million. Finally, in its fifth weekend, 80 for Brady claimed the tenth spot with $845,000, raising its overall total to $38.3 million.

Three films were pushed from the top ten during the weekend. After five weeks, Knock at the Cabin stops knocking at the weekend box office as it departs with an overall total of $35.1 million. With a six-week total of $31.8 million, Missing unfortunately ends up missing from the top ten this weekend. Finally, Tom Hanks and A Man Called Otto drop out of the top ten after amassing a nine-week total of $62.8 million.
