Box-Office Weekend: “Despicable Me 4” On Top
A new film stand on top of the box-office weekend as Despicable Me 4 debuted this weekend, besting last weekend’s top film by $45 million.
Over the course of its first weekend in release, Despicable Me 4 brought in $75.0 million for Universal Pictures, as well as an overall total of $122.6 million which includes extended days in release. Meanwhile, Inside Out 2 was relegated to second place where it made $30.0 million this weekend, bring its four-week total to $533.8 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. A Quiet Place: Day One dropped to third place with $21.0 million in its second weekend of release, giving the Paramount Pictures product a cumulative total of $94.4 million. Debuting in fourth place with $6.7 million was A24’s MaXXXine. Falling a spot to land in fifth place this weekend, Bad Boys: Ride of Die brought in $6.6 million for Sony Pictures Releasing over the weekend, lifting the film’s five-week total to $177.4 million for the studio.
After debuting in third place last weekend, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 dropped three spots to claim sixth place this weekend with $5.5 million, giving the film a two-week total of $22.2 million for Warner Brothers. Angel Studios enjoyed the appearance of Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot in seventh place with $3.2 million in its first weekend of release, while sporting an overall total of $6.8 million for the studio. Falling three spots, Kalki 2898 AD brought in $1.8 million to land in eight place this weekend, bringing the film’s two-week total to $7.3 million. Also dropping three spots was last weekend’s sixth-place film, The Bikeriders, which took in $1.3 million to raise its three-week total to $19.3 million for Focus Features. Finally, despite only bringing in $860,000, the Searchlight Pictures product, Kinds of Kindness managed to stay put in tenth place, delivering Searchlight Pictures a three-week total of $3.8 million.
The three new films cracking the top ten this weekend pushed out last weekend’s seventh-, eighth-, and ninth-place films. After bringing in $91.1 million for Sony Pictures Releasing during the last seven weeks,
The Garfield Movie was unable to keep the lasagna plentiful and failed to crack the hold onto a spot in the top ten. Similarly, after nine weeks in release, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes departs the top ten leaving 20th Century Studios $169.6 million richer. Finally, after debuting in ninth place last weekend, Jatt & Juliet 3 only squeaked out a total of $1.52 million during its brief time in release.
