Box-Office Weekend: Dune: Part Two Takes Over
A new film stands on top of the box-office weekend as Dune: Part Two debuted with an overwhelming $74.1 million margin of victory.
The long-awaited sequel Dune: Part Two opened with $81.5 million in its first three days in release for Warner Bros., easily taking the lead of this week’s top ten. This nearly doubled the opening weekend enjoyed by the first film in the series back in 2021. In its third weekend of release, Paramount Pictures’ Bob Marley: One Love fell to second place where it brought in $7.4 million to raise its overall total to $82.8 million. Holding steady in third place was Ordinary Angels which added $3.9 million over the weekend to bring its two-week tally to $12.6 million. Meanwhile, Madame Web took in $3.2 million for Columbia Pictures in its third weekend to hold onto fourth place and lift its three-week total to $40.4 million. Debuting in fifth place was the Fathom Event The Chosen (episodes seven through eight, from season four) with $3.15 million.
Dropping a spot to land in sixth where it added $2.5 million was Migration. This gives the film from Universal Pictures an eleven-week total of $123.5 million. Falling five spots to finish in seventh-place this weekend was Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Hashira Training which, in its second weekend of release, brought in $2.1 million, giving the Sony Pictures product an overall total of $15.7 million. In its twelfth week of release, the Warner Bros. offering Wonka dropped a spot and claimed eighth-place with $1.7 million over the weekend, giving the film a cumulative tally of $216.8 million. Falling three spots to land in ninth place this weekend, Argylle added $1.4 million to give the Universal Pictures International product a five-week total of $44.0 million. After claiming a ninth-place finish last weekend, The Beekeeper assumed tenth-place this weekend with $1.1 million. This gives the film from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and eight-week total of $64.9 million.
Two entries were forced out of the weekend box office the past three days. Last weekend’s eighth-place film Drive-Away Dolls departs after only one week in the top ten, making only $4.3 million for Focus Features. Finally, Episodes 4-6 of Season 4 of The Chosen dropped out of box-office weekend after bringing in $1.8 million last week.
