Box-Office Weekend: Emotions Best Bad Boys

For a third consecutive weekend, a new release has claimed the crown of the box-office weekend top ten. This weekend, the margin was a whopping $122 million as Inside Out 2 debuted at number one.

"Inside Out 2" posterIn its first weekend of release, the Disney/Pixar release of Inside Out 2 brought in $155.0 million for the studio, easily staking its claim for the top spot of the weekend box office. Meanwhile, last weekend’s top film, Bad Boys: Ride or Die was forced to second place where it added $33.0 million, to raise its two-week total to $112.2 million for Sony Pictures Releasing. Climbing back up two spots from a fifth-place finish last weekend was Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes which took in $5.2 million over the weekend to finish in third place, bringing the film’s six-week total to $157.8 million for 20th Century Studios. Dropping two spots this weekend, The Garfield Movie made $5.0 million to raise the film’s four-week tally to $78.5 million for Sony Pictures Releasing. This activity pushed The Watchers from fourth to fifth place where it added $3.7 million over the weekend to bring its two-week total to $13.7 million for Warner Brothers.

Despite finishing in third place last weekend, the Paramount Pictures product IF fell three spots to land in sixth place this weekend where it added $3.5 million, raising its five-week total to $100.9 million. Losing only one spot this weekend, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga landed in seventh place this week with $2.4 million, The film now claims a four-week total of $63.1 million for Warner Brothers. Also dropping one rung was Universal Pictures’ The Fall Guy which finished in eighth place with $1.5 million taken in over the weekend. This brings the Universal Pictures release to an overall seven-week total of $87.9 million. Similarly losing one spot, The Strangers: Chapter 1 brought in $760,000 for Lionsgate Films this weekend, lifting the film’s overall five-week total to $33.9 million. Finally, over its second weekend in re-release, the Fathom Events release of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring claimed tenth place with $632,910, giving the re-release a two-week total of $3.1 million.

Two films were pushed from the top ten this weekend. After claiming ninth place last week, Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle couldn’t crack the list this week and instead settled for a three-week total of $6.6 million. Meanwhile, last weekend’s tenth-place film,
In a Violent Nature, also departed the top ten, leaving IFC Films $4.1 million richer after three weeks in release.

He has also appeared on the television program Critic LEE Speaking alongside Lee Thomas of FOX2 and Adam Graham, of The Detroit News. He currently lives in the Detroit area with his wife and their dogs.
