Box-Office Weekend: Eternals Neuters Clifford
Marvel’s Eternals held onto the box-office weekend crown, though the film’s margin of victory was far less than the $63.4 million it sported last weekend.
The newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe pulled in $27.5 million during its second weekend of release. Eternals now sports a two-week total of $118.8 million. Second place was claimed by newcomer Clifford the Big Red Dog, which debuted with an opening weekend of $16.4 million (the film opened earlier in the week and claims a total of $22 million for its first week of release. Meanwhile, Dune: Part One dropped to third place in its fourth week of release with $5.5 million. The science-fiction epic has a total of $93.1 million to date. No Time To Die similarly fell a spot to finish in fourth place this weekend with $4.6 million. Daniel Craig’s final foray as James Bond has now made $150.5 million in its first six weeks of release. Also, losing one spot was Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which finished in fifth place earning $4.0 million over the weekend to lift its seven-week total to $202.7 million.
Dropping one spot to sixth place this weekend was the animated film Ron’s Gone Wrong, which brought in $2.2 million. The film now claims a four-week total of $20.8 million. Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch also fell one spot to finish in seventh place with $1.8 million over the weekend. The film now has a four-week tally of $11.6 million. The second debut of the weekend, Kenneth Branagh’s wonderful Belfast, finished in the eighth spot with $1.8 million. The Kristen Stewart vehicle Spencer finished in ninth place over the weekend after debuting last weekend in the eight spot of the top ten. The film added $1.5 million over the weekend, giving it a two-week total of $4.7 million. Finally, the horror film Antlers, fell one spot to finish in tenth place with $1.2 million over the weekend and a three-week total of $9.6 million.
Two films departed the weekend box-office top ten as Halloween Kills leaves with $91.4 million over the last five weeks and Last Night in Soho with $9.3 million over the last three.
