Box-Office Weekend: F1 Slays the Dragon

A new film took the lead of the box-office weekend over the last three days as F1: The Movie claimed first place by a margin of $36.2 million.

“F1: The Movie” posterIn its first weekend of release, the Warner Bros. film F1: The Movie made $55.6 million for the studio. This proved more than enough to displace last weekend’s top film, How to Train Your Dragon which brought in $19.4 million to finish in second place for Universal Pictures International. This brings the film’s three-week total to $200.1 million. Meanwhile, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures saw Elio take in $10.7 million over the weekend to finish in third place. Despite dropping a slot this weekend, the film still sports a two-week total of $42.2 million. The second debut of the weekend, Universal Pictures’ M3GAN 2.0 claimed fourth place with $10.2 million earned during its first weekend of release. Falling three spots to land in fifth place was 28 Years Later which made $9.7 million to bring the film’s two-week total to $50.4 million for Sony Pictures Releasing.

The second film from Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures in the top ten, Lilo & Stitch, dropped two spots from last weekend to land in sixth place this weekend where it added $6.9 million, bringing its six-week total to $400.1 million. Similarly, the Paramount Pictures International product Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning also fell two spots to a finish in seventh place where it added $4.2 million to brings the film’s six-week total to $186.1 million. Falling from sixth to eight was A24’s Materialists with $2.9 million taken in over the weekend, bringing the film’s three-week total to $30.4 million for the studio. Lionsgate saw From the World of John Wick: Ballerina fall two spots again this weekend as the film landed in ninth place with $2.1 million. This gives the film a four-week total of $55.5 million. After an eighth-place finish last weekend, Karate Kid: Legends dropped two spots as well where it made $1.0 million to raise its five-week total to $51.6 million for Sony Pictures Releasing.

Two films from last weekend fell out of the top ten this weekend as the ninth- and tenth-place films from seven days ago both failed to make this weekend’s list. After seven weeks in release, the Warner Bros. release Final Destination: Bloodlines managed to bring in $136.7 million for the studio. Finally, despite cracking the top ten in the final spot last weekend, Kuberaa did not repeat a top ten appearance and instead settled for a cumulative total of $1.8 million for Prathyangira Cinemas.
