Box-Office Weekend: Freddy Tops Taylor
A new film sits atop the box-office weekend as the Halloween-themed Five Nights at Freddy’s took control of the box office by a margin of $63.3 million.
In its first weekend of release, the latest horror film from Blumhouse Productions easily claimed the number spot of the weekend box-office top ten with an opening of $78.0 million for the Universal release. Last week’s top film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour finished in a very distant second place with $14.7 million. Despite the finish, the film still sports a three-week total of $149.3 million. Meanwhile, Killers of the Flower Moon dropped a spot to land in third place where it added $9.0 million over the weekend, giving the Paramount Pictures product a two-week total of $40.7 million. The second debut of the weekend, Angel Studios’ After Death landed in fourth place with $5.1 million. Dropping two spots to finish in fifth this weekend, The Exorcist: Believer added $3.1 million to bring its four-week total to $59.4 million for Universal Pictures.
Also falling two spots this weekend was PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie which made $2.2 million, giving the Paramount Pictures film a five-week total of $59.2 million. The third, and final, debut of the weekend, Freelance took seventh place with $2.1 million brought in for the Relativity Media product. Last weekend’s number five finisher, the thirtieth anniversary re-release of The Nightmare Before Christmas took eighth place where it added $2.0 million to raise its two-week total to $7.9 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Falling three spots to land in ninth place was the Lionsgate Films release Saw X, where it added $1.7 million to bring its five-week tally to $50.3 million. Finally, after five weeks, The Creator has managed to bring in a total of $38.9 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, including $1.0 million this weekend.
This weekend saw three films forced from the weekend box office as last week’s eighth, ninth, and tenth-place films were pushed off of this week’s list. After seven weeks, A Haunting in Venice leaves Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures $41.9 million richer than when it premiered. Meanwhile, the Fathom Events offering The Blind departs after earning $15.9 million over the last four weeks. Finally, after eight weeks and bring in $85.9 million for Warner Bros., The Nun II takes its bow from the box-office weekend top ten.
