A new film has taken sturdy control of the box-office weekend top ten as The Conjuring: Last Rites bested both this week’s second- and third-place films by over $70 million.
In its first weekend of release, the Warner Bros. sequel, The Conjuring: Last Rites debuted in first place where it took in $83.0 million for Warner Brothers. This was more than enough to top the second-place debut of the 2025 re-release of Hamilton from Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, which brought in $10.0 million over the last three days. Meanwhile, last weekend’s top film, Weapons, dropped to third place where it brought in $5.4 million, giving the Warner Bros. product a five-week total of $143.0 million. Holding steady in fourth place, Freakier Friday added $3.8 million over the weekend to bring its five-week total to $87.8 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. After claiming third place last weekend, Caught Stealing fell two spots to land in fifth place this week, where it brought in $3.2 million for Sony Pictures Releasing, lifting the film’s two-week total to $12.8 million.
Falling one spot, The Roses landed in sixth place this weekend where it took in $2.8 million, bringing the film’s two-week total to $12.3 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. In its seventh week of release, the fourth film from Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on this weekend’s top ten, The Fantastic Four: First Steps fell from sixth to seventh where it made $2.75 million over the weekend, to bring its overall total to $270.1 million. Just behind that, Universal Pictures saw The Bad Guys 2 drop from seventh to eighth as it added $2.5 million this weekend, bringing its six-week total to $77.7 million. The third debut in the top ten this weekend, Light of the World, claimed eighth place where it brought in $2.4 million. Finally, after nine weeks in release, and amassing a total of $353.3 million, the Warner Bros. release Superman dropped two spots, to finish in tenth place where it brought in $1.0 million over the last three days.
Yet again, three films dropped from this weekend’s top ten. Not only did the ninth- and tenth-place films from last weekend fall from this week’s list, but the second-place film seven days ago also failed to reappear on this weekend’s list. The fiftieth anniversary re-release of Jaws managed to bring in $12.3 million over the last two weeks, but couldn’t crack the top ten again this weekend. Meanwhile, after four weeks in release, the Universal Pictures International product Nobody 2 has made $21.4 million for the studio despite falling from the top ten this weekend. Finally, after six weeks in release and bringing in a total of $52.3 million for Paramount Pictures International, the remake of The Naked Gun also dropped from this weekend’s top ten.
