Box-Office Weekend: Lilo & Stitch Stay on Top
Disney’s Lilo & Stitch held the number one spot of the box-office weekend for a second consecutive week over second-place mainstay Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning by a $35.7 million margin (which was a little smaller than last weekend’s $82.5 million divide).
In its second week of release, the live-action interpretation of Disney’s Lilo & Stitch brought in $63.0 million. This allowed the film to not only retain its hold on first place, but to also bring its overall total to $280.1 million. Meanwhile, Paramount Pictures International saw Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning hold steady in second place where it took in $27.3 million in its second week of release to raise its total to $122.6 million. Third place saw the debut of the Sony Pictures Releasing product Karate Kid: Legends with $21.0 million. That debut dropped Final Destination: Bloodlines down a spot to a fourth-place finish this weekend where it added $10.8 million to lift its three-week total to $111.7 million for Warner Brothers. Bring Her Back debuted in fifth place, taking in $7.1 million for A24.
Warner Bros. saw Sinners drop a spot to finish in sixth place this weekend, where it brought in $5.2 million, giving the film a seven-week total of $267.1 million. After a fourth-place finish last weekend the Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures release Thunderbolts* fell three places to claim seventh with $4.8 million in its fifth weekend of release, raising its overall total to $181.9 million. Dropping just one spot this weekend, A24’s Friendship claimed eighth place this weekend with $2.6 million, giving the film a four-week total of $12.4 million. Angel Studios saw The Last Rodeo fall three spots to land in ninth place where it added $2.1 million over the weekend, giving the film a two-week tally of $10.8 million. Finally, the Trafalgar Releasing offering of j-hope Tour ‘Hope on the Stage’ in Japan: Live Viewing finished in tenth place with a debut that brought in $939,173 for the studio.
Once again, the eighth- through tenth-place films were pushed out of this weekend’s top ten. After nine weeks in release, the Warner Bros. product A Minecraft Movie drops from the top ten with an overall tally of $423.1 million. Meanwhile, Amazon MGM Studios saw The Accountant 2 bring in $65.1 million over the last six weeks. Finally, Warner Bros. enjoyed a nine-week total of $423.1 million for its Hurry Up Tomorrow.
