Box-Office Weekend: Marvel Back On Top


For the third weekend in a row, a new film sits atop the box-office weekend. This weekend, Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania easily took top honors as it bested the second-place film by an astonishing $97.9 million.

Holding steady in a very distant second-place was Avatar: The Way of Water with $6.1 million. This brings the James Cameron film to an astounding ten-week total of $657.1 million. These two behemoths pushed last weekend’s top film, Magic Mike’s Last Dance, to third place with $5.4 million over the weekend, giving the film a two-week total of $18.0 million. Climbing two spots to finish in fourth place over the weekend was Puss in Boots: The Last Wish which, in its ninth week of release, brought in $5.3 million to raise its overall total to $166.1 million. Standing pat in fifth place was Knock at the Cabin which added $3.9 million over the weekend, bringing its three-week total to $30.4 million.

Falling two spots from last weekend to finish in sixth-place was 80 for Brady as the female-driven comedy added $3.6 million over the weekend to give it a three-week total of $32.2 million. Meanwhile, the re-release of Titanic managed to stick around in the top ten for another week, despite falling four spots to land in seventh-place this weekend with $2.3 million. This gives the re-released film a two-week total of $12.4 million. The second debut of the weekend, Marlowe, landed in eighth-place with $1.9 million over the last three days and a first-week overall total of $2.7 million. Dropping a spot to finish in ninth this weekend was Missing which added $1.7 million over the weekend to give it a five-week tally of $29.7 million. Finally, Tom Hanks and A Man Called Otto took the final spot of the top ten with $1.6 million this weekend, giving the film an eight-week total of $60.6 million.

The weekend box office saw two films pushed from the top ten over the last three days. After amassing a seven-week total of $93.4 million, M3GAN was unable to hold onto its ninth-place finish from last weekend. Similarly, Plane took off from the top ten this weekend after ringing up a six-week total of $31.9 million.
