Box-Office Weekend: Moana Makes it Three
For the third weekend in a row, Moana 2 held the top spot of the box-office weekend top ten; this weekend holding on by a margin of $4.1 million.
In its third weekend of release, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures’ Moana 2 brought in $26.6 million, allowing it to remain in the number one slot for a third consecutive weekend. The film now sports an overall total of $337.5 million. Meanwhile, Universal Pictures’ Wicked remained fixed in second place where it took in $22.5 million over the course of its fourth weekend in release, bringing its overall total to $359 million for the studio. Third place was claimed by newcomer Kraven the Hunter with $11 million earned for Sony Pictures Releasing. This debut pushed Paramount Pictures’ Gladiator II to fourth place where it added $7.8 million, bringing its four-week total to $145.9 million. The second debut of the weekend, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim claimed fifth place with $4.6 million taken in for Warner Brothers.
Dropping one spot to land in sixth place was Red One with $4.4 million taken in over the weekend. This gives the Amazon MGM Studios film a five-week total of $92.6 million. Meanwhile, AA Films saw Pushpa: The Rule – Part 2 fall three spots to land in seventh place this weekend where it added $3.7 million to bring its two-week total to $13 million. The re-release of Interstellar fell two spots to an eighth-place finish this weekend with $3.3 million for Paramount Pictures, giving the re-release a two-week tally of $11.8 million. Trafalgar Releasing saw its offering of Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem claim ninth place with $2.3 million it is debut this weekend. Finally, the Lionsgate holiday-themed film The Best Christmas Pageant Ever held steady in tenth place with $1.4 million, bringing its six-week total to $36.7 million.
Only three films were forced from the top ten this weekend (as opposed to half the list last week) as last weekend’s eight-, ninth-, and tenth-place films all dropped from this week’s list. After one week in release and amassing $2.5 million for Sony Pictures Releasing, Solo Leveling: ReAwakening dropped from the top ten. Meanwhile, A24’s Y2K managed to bring in $3.8 million during the last two weeks. Finally, the Fathom Events offering of For King + Country: A Drummer Boy Christmas – Live made a total of $3.8 million during its one-week stint in theaters.
