Box-Office Weekend: New Films Shake Things Up

The box-office weekend sports a new winner this week as three films debuted in the top three spots of the top ten, displacing last weekend’s top films and leaving Send Help in the number one spot by a margin of just $2.2 million.

"Send Help" posterIn its first weekend of release, Send Help took in a total of $20.0 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. This proved enough to best Markplier’s release of Iron Lung which claimed second place with $17.8 million over the last three days. Meanwhile, the critically maligned Melania debuted in third place where it brought in $7.0 million. These three debuts pushed last week’s third-place film, Zootopia 2, to a fourth-place finish this weekend where it made $5.8 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, to bring the film’s ten-week total to $409.1 million. The fourth debut of the weekend, Black Bear’s Shelter, landed in fifth place with $5.51 taken in for the studio.

Meanwhile, Avatar: Fire and Ash dropped four spots to land in sixth place where it made $5.5 million for 20th Century Studios, bringing the film’s seven-week total to $386.1 million. Amazon MGM Studios saw last weekend’s top film, Mercy, plummet to a seventh-place finish this week as the film brought in $4.7 million to lift its two-week total to $19.4 million. The Housemaid fell from fourth to eighth place as it took in just $3.5 million this weekend, bringing the Lionsgate offering’s seven-week total to $120.7 million. Similarly, A24’s Marty Supreme fell three spots to claim ninth place with $2.9 million over the weekend, giving the film a seven-week tally of $90.9 million. Finally, following a fifth-place finish last weekend, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple dropped to tenth place this weekend where it took in $1.6 million to raise its three-week total to $23.7 million for Sony Pictures Releasing.

This weekend did last week one better as the bottom four films of the top ten seven days ago were all pushed out of this weekend’s list. After a seventh-place finish last weekend and a total of $5.1 million taken in for Cineverse, Return to Silent Hill dropped out of the top ten this weekend. Likewise, Focus Features saw Hamnet fall out of the top ten after an eighth-place finish seven days ago. The film boasts a ten-week total of $20.2 million for the studio. The 2026 re-release of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring ended with the film bringing in a total of $5.9 million. Finally, after four weeks in release, the Paramount Pictures International product Primate sports a total of $25.0 million despite falling out of the top ten this weekend.

He currently lives in the Detroit area with his wife and their dogs.
