Box-Office Weekend: Taylor Swift Dominates

The concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour dominated the box-office weekend, finishing ahead of the closest competition by $85 million.

Taylor Swift assumed control of the box office with the limited release of her concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. The film finished the weekend earning $96 million, which was easily enough to dominate second-place finisher The Exorcist: Believer by nearly $90 million. Despite falling to second place this weekend, The Exorcist: Believer still brought it $11 million in its second weekend of release, bringing the Universal Pictures product’s overall total to $44.9 million. Also dropping a spot, to land in third place this weekend, PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie managed to scrape together $7 million in its third week for Paramount Pictures to lift its total to $49.9 million. Meanwhile, Saw X similarly fell a spot to finish in fourth place where it added $5.7 million in its third weekend in release to bring its overall total to $41.4 million for Lionsgate Films. Claiming fifth place in its third weekend of release was Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures latest The Creator with $4.3 million. This give the film a cumulative total of $32.4 million to date.

Holding its ground in sixth place was A Haunting in Venice with $2.1 million over the weekend. This gives the Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures product a five-week total of $39.1 million. Falling two spots to finish in seventh this weekend was The Blind which added $2.0 million in its third weekend of release to bring its overall total to $14.1 million. Dropping one spot to land in eighth place over the weekend, The Nun II added $1.6 million to give the Warner Bros. film a six-week tally of $83.7 million. The Columbia Pictures product The Equalizer 3 held steady in ninth place with $960,000. This gives the film a seven-week total of $90.6 million. Finally, falling two spots to finish in tenth-place this weekend, Dumb Money added $920,000 for Sony Pictures Entertainment to bring the film’s five-week total to $12.6 million.

The only film to bow out of the top ten this weekend was the thirtieth anniversary re-release of Hocus Pocus, which departs the box-office weekend with a two-week total of $3.3 million for this release of the Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures product.
