A new film stands atop the box-office weekend as The Woman King debuted at number one, displacing last weekend’s top film, Barbarian and sending it to second-place by a margin of $12.7 million.
The Viola Davis starring The Woman King brought in $19.0 million in its first weekend of release, easily claiming the top spot as last weekend’s top film, Barbarian was able to muster a mere $6.3 million in its second weekend of release. Despite the fall to second-place, Barbarian still sports a two-week total of $20.9 million. Claiming third place was the second debut of the weekend, the horror prequel Pearl which took in $3.12 million over the weekend to narrowly best fourth-place finisher See How They Run which brought in $3.1 million in its first weekend of release. These debuts all forced Bullet Train to a fifth-place finish as it brought in $2.5 million in its seventh weekend of release to lift its grand total to $96.4 million.
This activity managed to push Top Gun: Maverick from the top five and into sixth place where it added $2.18 million over the weekend. This brings the film’s seventeen-week total to $709.1 million. Similarly, DC League of Super-Pets dropped from fifth to seventh-place over the weekend with $2.17 million. This gives the animated film a grand total of $87.9 million. Falling two spots to finish in eighth place over the weekend was The Invitation as the film managed to add $1.7 million during its fourth weekend in release to brings its total to $21.5 million. Holding steady in the ninth spot was the animated sequel Minions: The Rise of Gru, which added $1.3 million over the weekend. This gives the film a twelve-week total of $364.1 million. Finally, debuting in tenth-place over the weekend was Moonage Daydream with $1.2 million in its first weekend of release.
As happened last weekend, multiple films were thrust from the top ten. After finishing in second-place last weekend, Brahmastra Part One: Shiva left the top ten altogether with a grand total of $6.7 million to show for its work. Similarly, last week’s seventh-place film, Lifemark, departs the top ten with a two-week tally of $3.6 million. Meanwhile, after five weeks, Beast takes leave of the top ten with a total of $30.8 million.
