Box-Office Weekend: Venom Takes Over
The top film of the box-office weekend seven days ago, Smile 2, found itself relegated to second place this weekend as Venom: The Last Dance debuted in first place and bested last weekend’s top film by $41.6 million.
In its first weekend of release, Venom: The Last Dance brought in $51.0 million for Sony Pictures Releasing. This was more than enough to unseat last weekend’s top film, Smile 2, and take control of the top ten. Despite falling to second place, Smile 2 still managed to bring in $9.4 million in its second weekend of release for Paramount Pictures, bringing its overall total to $40.7 million. Meanwhile, Universal Pictures saw The Wild Robot drop a spot and claim third place with $6.5 million in its fifth week of release – raising its total to $111.4 million. Focus Features enjoyed a $6.5 million debut for Conclave as well as a fourth-place finish as the film finished just south of The Wild Robot. In fifth place, A24’s We Live in Time took in $4.84 million to retain its spot from last weekend.
After finishing in third place last weekend, Cineverse’s Terrifier 3 fell three spots to a sixth-place finish where it added $4.80 million, bringing its three-week total to $44.5 million. Similarly, the Warner Brothers’ release, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice dropped to seventh-place this weekend, where it took in $3.2 million – after finishing in fourth last weekend – bringing its eight-week total to $288.7 million. Neon saw its Anora debut in the top ten in eighth place with $867,142 taken in during its second weekend in release – lifting its overall total to $1.6 million. Falling two spots from last weekend, Piece by Piece brought in $721,000 over the weekend, raising the Focus Features product’s three-week total to $8.9 million. Finally, Paramount Pictures saw Transformers One drop two spots to land in tenth place this weekend, earning $720,000. This gives the film a six-week total of $57.9 million.
Three films exited the top ten of the weekend box office over the course of the last three days. After four weeks, the Warner bros. release Joker: Folie à Deux brought in a total of $57.8 million but failed to make the top ten this weekend after claiming sixth place a week ago. Meanwhile, last weekend’s ninth-place finisher, Saturday Night, couldn’t crack the top ten again this week and instead settled for a five week total of $8.9 million taken in for Sony Pictures Releasing. Finally, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures saw the 2024 re-release of The Nightmare Before Christmas bring in a total of $5.8 Million during its three weeks of release before dropping from the top ten.
