When certain films are released, mostly those of kid-centric variety, critics tend to forget that they’re not necessarily the film’s target audience. So, we here at CinemaNerdz decided we needed the critical viewpoint of a true member of the movie’s intended demographic. Thus, we turn the reins over to Miranda Clarke, age 9, as she shares with us her views on the new film “The Secret World of Arrietty.”

The Secret World of Arrietty was awesome! I really loved the movie, it was great! The Secret World of Arrietty is a story about a family of Borrowers, or little people, and their adventures of living in a secret house under a house for regular sized people. Arrietty is the kid in the family of little people and she wants to start borrowing or exploring the big people’s world. “Borrowing” is taking small things from the big people that the little family needs to survive. She meets a boy named Shawn (David Henrie) who is a regular sized person in the real world. Shawn is staying with his grandmother and is getting rest in the country before a heart operation.

I liked the way this movie took place in Japan. It really showed the Japanese culture. I liked seeing how some of it wasn’t that different from ours. I also loved the animation – it was excellent. The animation looked like it was hand drawn and it was beautiful. The music in the movie was nice and it matched the moods of the movie. I really enjoyed it.

Bridgit Mendler who does the voice of Arrietty did a really great job. She made the character her own. By the way, I am a fan of Mendler, who is also in Good Luck Charlie, on the Disney channel. In the movie I could hear a lot of similarity in her voice for Arrietty reminding me of things that she says in her role on Good Luck Charlie.

My favorite part was the ending of the movie where Arrietty has to leave her house. Shawn says goodbye to Arrietty and leaves to get surgery for his heart. I am guessing on the surgery part because the movie ends before we find out what happens to Shawn. I wished the movie would have gone on longer so we could see what happens to him.

The Secret World of Arrietty was a big and interesting adventure. It had funny parts, scary parts and some not so great parts. Movie Review: The Secret World of Arrietty One of the not so great parts was when the maid captured Arrietty’s mother. It was not a bad part of the movie, it was just very sad. An important lesson from the movie is never judge people by how they look. Arrietty was scared of Shawn in the beginning because of how he big he was. But in the end Arrietty and her family find out that not all humans are out to get the Borrowers. The Secret World of Arrietty is not just a movie about Borrowers. It is also about how everyone is different, but that doesn’t mean they are bad. I recommend this movie because it is an adventure that never gets boring.
