Box-Office Weekend: Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle on Top Again

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle once again stood tall over the box-office weekend bringing in an additional $20 million. This gives the film a five-week domestic total of $317 million. Second and third places belong to two films making their debuts this week. With $16.4 million, the war drama 12 Strong finished just ahead of the heist-thriller Den of Thieves which brought in $15.3 million.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle posterSteven Spielberg’s The Post dropped from the second to the fourth spot this week, earning $12.2 million. Despite the lower finish, the film has still made a decent $45.2 million during its five-week run. Elsewhere, The Greatest Showman also dropped a spot, yet it added $11 million to raise its five-week total to $113.5 million.

The family-friendly Paddington 2 held onto the sixth spot with $8.2 million. In just two weeks, the film has earned an impressive $25 million. As sustainable as Paddington’s success seems to be, that does not appear to be the case for Liam Neeson and The Commuter which fell five spots to seventh in only its second week with $6.7 million as it looks primed to make an exit from the top ten in the very near future.

In eighth place, down from the fifth spot, is Star Wars: Episode VIII—The Last Jedi, which added another $6.6 million to raise its six-week total to $604.3 million. This makes the film one of only six films in history to bring in over $600 million domestically.

Insidious: The Last Key brought in $5.9 million, which was good enough for ninth place this week. Although a three-week total of only $58.7 million suggests the film may bow out of the top ten soon. Finally, the critically lambasted romance Forever My Girl debuted in the tenth spot with $4.7 million, though its stay on the list may be short-lived to say the least.
