Box-Office Weekend: Fall Guy Crowned King

Challengers failed to repeat as the top film of the box-office weekend as newcomer The Fall Guy easily claimed first place by a margin of $20.4 million. Universal Pictures enjoyed dominance over the box-office weekend top ten as the studio sported three films in the weekend’s list.

Claiming first place was The Fall Guy with $28.5 million, easily besting the second-place film, the re-release of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace which took in $8.1 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. This pushed last weekend’s top film, Challengers, to a third place finish where it added $7.6 million, raising its two-week total to $29.5 million for United Artists Releasing. Screen Gems, meanwhile, enjoyed the debut of Tarot in fourth place where it managed to bring in $6.5 million for the studio. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was consequently dropped two spots where it claimed fifth place with $4.5 million over the weekend. This gives the Warner Bros. product a six-week total of $188.1 million.

Also falling a couple of spots over the weekend was A24’s Civil War which finished in sixth place with $3.6 million, giving the film a four-week total of $62.0 million. Plummeting five spots this weekend, Unsung Hero landed in seventh place with $3.0 million for Lionsgate Films, giving the film a two-week total of $13.1 million. Kung Fu Panda 4 lost one spot over the weekend, taking over eighth place with $2.4 million. This gives the second film from Universal Pictures on this week’s list a nine-week tally of $188.3 million. Dropping four places to land in ninth place this weekend was the third film from Universal Pictures, Abigail. In its third week of release, the film brought in $2.3 million, raising its total to $22.8 million. Finally, with a seven-week total of $109.9 million taken in for Sony Pictures Releasing, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire fell two spots to claim tenth-place this weekend with $1.8 million.

This week saw another three films forced from the top ten as sixth-place The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare failed to make this weekend’s list, instead settling on a three-week total of $18.4 million for Lionsgate Films. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has enjoyed an ten-week tally of $281.3 million for Dune: Part Two despite the film failing to repeat its ninth-place finish from last weekend. Finally, in its second week of release, Boy Kills World, could not hold onto its spot in the top ten but did managed to bring in $2.5 million for Roadside Attractions.
