Box-Office Weekend: Inside Out 2 Dominates
After claiming the top spot of the box-office weekend seven days ago by a whopping $122 million, Inside Out 2 held onto that spot this weekend by the slightly smaller margin of $81.2 million.
In its second weekend of release, Inside Out 2 brought in $100.0 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures as it easily remained in the number one spot of the box-office weekend top ten. In a distant second place remained Bad Boys: Ride or Die with $18.8 million. In its third week of release, the Sony Pictures Releasing product has brought in a total of $146.9 million for the studio. Meanwhile, Focus Features enjoyed the debut of The Bikeriders in third place, where it made $10.0 million over the course of its first weekend in release. Holding steady in fourth place was The Garfield Movie which made $3.6 million in its fifth weekend in release, to bring its overall total to $85.1 million for Sony Pictures Releasing. Dropping two spots to land in fifth place, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes brought in $3.6 million for 20th Century Studios to raise its seven-week total to $164.4 million.
Despite being in its sixth week of release, Paramount Pictures’ IF managed to hold onto sixth place with $2.8 million over the weekend, giving it an cumulative tally of $106.6 million. Meanwhile, Vertical Entertainment’s The Exorcism debuted in seventh place over the weekend with $2.4 million. Magnolia Pictures enjoyed a debut in the top ten this weekend as well as the studio’s Thelma landed in eighth place with $2.2 million. After finishing in fifth place last weekend, The Watchers fell four spots to land in ninth place where it took in $1.9 million for Warner Bros., bringing its overall total of $17.7 million. Finally, the fourth debut on this weekend’s top ten, GHOST: Rite Here Rite Now claimed tenth place, where it brought in $1.5 million for Trafalgar Releasing.
Last weekend’s bottom four films were all pushed out of the top ten this week. First of all, after bringing in $66.1 million for Warner Bros. during the last five weeks, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga couldn’t hold onto a spot in the top ten after landing in seventh place last weekend. Meanwhile, last weekend’s eighth-place film, The Fall Guy did not make the jump to this week’s top ten and instead settled for an eight-week total of $90.0 million for Universal Pictures. In its sixth week of release, The Strangers: Chapter 1 has managed to make a total of $34.8 million for Lionsgate Films, despite falling out of the top ten this weekend. Finally, the Fathom Event re-release of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring took in a total of $3.1 million over the last two weeks, despite dropping from the top ten this weekend.
