Box-Office Weekend: Dog Man Stays on Top
Ending a five-week trend of a new film claiming the top spot of the box-office weekend, Dog Man held onto the number one position for a second consecutive weekend, albeit by only a margin of only $5.2 million.
In its second weekend of release, DreamWorks Distribution’s Dog Man remained in first place with $13.7 million. This was more than enough to best second-place finisher, Heart Eyes, which debuted in second place with $8.5 million for Sony Pictures Releasing. Meanwhile, Universal Pictures saw its Love Hurts debut in third place with $5.8 million over the weekend. Dropping a spot from last weekend, Mufasa: The Lion King landed in fourth place where it took in $3.9 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, bringing its eight-week total to $235.2 million. Despite falling from second to fifth place this weekend, Companion managed to bring in $3.02 million in its second weekend of release to lift its overall total to $15.5 million for Warner Brothers.
Dropping two spots, One of Them Days landed in sixth place where it brought in $3.0 million for Sony Pictures Releasing while raising its four-week total to $39.4 million. Debuting in the seventh spot was Becoming Led Zeppelin with $2.62 million. Lionsgate’s Flight Risk dropped two spots in its third weekend of release to claim eighth place with $2.6 million while lifting its overall total to $24.2 million. Falling three places to finish in ninth place, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 brought in $1.8 million for Paramount Pictures, giving the film an eight-week total of $233.1 million. Finally, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures saw Moana 2 fall three spots to claim tenth place in this weekend’s top ten with $1.5 million, giving the film an eleven-week total of $456.1 million.
This weekend saw one more film leave the top ten than did seven days ago as the three films in the bottom three spots of last week’s top ten were all pushed out of this weekend’s list. After bringing in $69 million for Searchlight Pictures over the last seven weeks, A Complete Unknown couldn’t hold onto a place in the top ten this weekend. With an eight-week total of $13.7 million, A24’s The Brutalist also dropped from this weekend’s top ten. Finally, with a five-week total of $35.6 million, Lionsgate’s Den of Thieves 2: Pantera also departed the top ten this weekend.
