Box-Office Weekend: Dinosaurs are King

Last weekend’s top film, F1: The Movie was dislodged from first place of the box-office weekend over the last three days to the tune of $65.4 million by newcomer Jurassic Park: Rebirth.

“Jurassic World Rebirth” posterOver the course of its first weekend in release, Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World: Rebirth took in $91.5 million, easily claiming first place of the weekend’s top ten. This, added to the money the film took in due to early release on Wednesday, gives the title a one-week total of $147.3 million. Meanwhile, last week’s top film, F1: The Movie dropped to second place where it made $26.1 million for Warner Bros., giving the film a two-week tally of $109.5 million. Similarly, How to Train Your Dragon also lost a spot as it dropped from second to third this weekend, bringing in $11.0 million for Universal Pictures International. The film now sports a four-week total of $224. 0 million. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures saw its Elio fall from third to fourth place this weekend where it took in $5.7 million for the studio, raising its three-week total to $55.1 million for the studio. Holding its ground in fifth place was Sony Pictures Releasing’s 28 Years Later with $4.6 million, giving the film a three-week total of $60.2 million.

Falling two spots to finish in sixth place this weekend was M3GAN 2.0 which earned $3.8 million for Universal Pictures, raising the film’s two-week total to $18.6 million. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures saw the live-action Lilo & Stitch take in $3.8 million, which proved just enough to finish in seventh place, right behind M3GAN 2.0. The film now claims a seven-week total of $408.5 million. After seven weeks in release, and amassing a total of $191.2 million, the Paramount Pictures International product Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning dropped from seventh to eighth place where it brought in $3.3 million for the studio over the weekend. Falling one spot from last week to claim ninth place for A24 was Materialists with $1.3 million, lifting the film’s four-week total to $33.5 million. Finally, Lionsgate saw From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, or simply Ballerina, fall one spot to claim tenth place with $725,000 earned over the weekend. This brings the film’s five-week total to $57.3 million.

Only one film fell from the top ten this weekend as last week’s tenth-place finisher, Karate Kid: Legends bowed out of this week’s list after bringing in a five-week total of $51.6 million.
