Box-Office Weekend: Weapons Reclaims Crown
After dropping from the top spot last weekend, Weapons reclaimed first place by the slim margin of just $2.1 million, prior to the holiday.
In its fourth weekend of release, Warner Brothers’ Weapons crept back into first place where it brought in $10.2 million for the studio to reclaim first place and raise its overall total to $132.4 million. Meanwhile, the fiftieth anniversary release of Jaws laid claim to second place with $8.1 million taken in over the weekend. Sony Pictures Releasing saw Cuaght Stealing debut in third place with $7.8 million taken in over the weekend. This pushed Freakier Friday from third to fourth place where it brought in $6.5 million over the weekend to lift its four-week total to $80.5 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. That studio also saw its release of The Roses lay claim to fifth place as it premiered there bringing in $6.4 million over the weekend.
Falling two spots this weekend to land in sixth place was The Fantastic Four: First Steps which made $4.8 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures over the weekend to bring the film’s six-week total to $264.6 million. Also dropping two spots over the weekend was the Warner Bros. release The Bad Guys 2 which fell to seventh place where it took in $4.7 million to bring the film’s five-week total to $73.0 million for the studio. Losing only one spot, Superman landed in eighth place where it took in $2.6 million to bring the film’s eight-week total to $351.0 for Warner Brothers. Tumbling three spots to land in ninth place, the Universal Pictures International release Nobody 2 brought in $1.83 million over the weekend to raise the film’s three-week total to $20.1 million. Finally, in its fifth weekend of release, the Paramount Pictures Internation release of The Naked Gun dropped from eighth to tenth place where it added $1.8 million to bring its overall total to $50.8 million.
Three films fell from the top ten this weekend as last week’s top film as well as the films in ninth- and tenth-place all failed to make this weekend’s list. With a one-week total of $18 million, KPop Demon Hunters left cinemas to count its earnings. Meanwhile, after two weeks in release, the Focus Features release, Honey Don’t managed to pull in a total of $5.1 million before falling from the top ten. Finally, after amassing $337.9 million during its nine weeks in release, Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World: Rebirth couldn’t hold onto the final spot of the top ten, instead finishing with an overall total of $337.8 million.
