After two weeks with The Odyssey atop the box-office weekend top ten, a new film claimed the top spot as Spider-Man: Brand New Day assumed first place by the sizable margin of $304 million.

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” posterDuring the first three days of its release, the latest Marvel film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, brought in a total of $355.0 million for Sony Pictures Releasing, allowing it to easily claim first place in the box-office weekend top ten. Meanwhile, last week’s top film, The Odyssey, was relegated to a very distant second place with $51.0 million earned in its third weekend of release. This gives the Universal Pictures product a three-week total of $395.5 million. Meanwhile, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures saw its Toy Story 5 hold steady in third place where it added $6.3 million over the weekend to lift the film’s seven-week total to $461.7 million. Climbing one spot to claim fourth place with $5.8 million, Minion & Monsters managed to bring its five-week total to $168.4 million for Universal Pictures. After a second-place finish a week ago, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures’ live-action Moana dropped to fifth place this weekend where it brought in $5.3 million for the studio, giving the film a four-week total of $114.8 million.

Following a fourth-place debut a week ago, Bleecker Street Media’s Hadestown: The Musical fell to six place where it brought in $2.0 million for the studio, lifting the film’s two-week total of $18.2 million. This activity also resulted in A24’s The Invite dropping to seventh from sixth place a week ago as it added $1.2 million to bring its six-week total to $22.8 million. Meanwhile, Magnolia Pictures enjoyed an eighth-place debut for I Want Your Sex which brought in a total of $600,000 for the studio. Dropping two spots form last weekend, Evil Dead Burn landed in ninth place where it took in $527,000 to give the Warner Bros. release a four-week total of $31.3 million. Finally, also falling two spots from last weekend to claim tenth place this week, Young Washington brought in $477,727 for Angel, lifting the film’s five-week total to $46.4 million.

Two films dropped from the top ten this weekend as last week’s ninth- and tenth-place films were both pushed from this weekend’s list. With a one-week total of $2.3 million, IFC Films’ Motor City fell from the top ten after only seven days in release. Meanwhile, Focus Features enjoyed a twelve-week run for Obsession that yielded an overall total of $262.8 million for the film.
