Box-Office Weekend: “The Nun II” Three-Peats

For a third consecutive week, The Nun II maintained its position on top of the box-office weekend, albeit by the extremely slim lead of only $0.1 million.

"The Nun II" posterAlthough The Nun II again experienced a decline in revenueit made $6.3 million less than last weekendit still managed to hold onto the number one slot of the top ten with $8.4 million, giving the Warner Bros. film a total of $69.2 million to date. Debuting in second place, Expend4ables made $8.3 million for Lionsgate, finishing just behind The Nun II. Falling a spot to third this weekend was A Haunting in Venice, which added $6.3 million over the weekend for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, giving the film a two-week tally of $25.4 million. Also dropping a spot this weekend was The Equalizer 3, which brought in $4.7 million for Columbia Pictures in its fourth weekend of release, giving it an overall total of $81.3 million. Holding its ground in fifth place, Barbie added $3.2 million this weekend to give the Warner Bros. product a ten-week total of $630.5 million.

Dropping two spots and landing in sixth place this weekend, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 managed to bring in $3.0 million for Focus Features over the weekend, giving the film a three-week total of $23.8 million. Debuting in seventh place was It Lives Inside with $2.6 million in its first weekend of release for Neon. Meanwhile, in its second weekend of release, Dumb Money leapt from nineteenth place to an eighth-place finish this weekend, where it brought in $2.5 million, giving the film an overall total of $2.8 million for Sony Pictures Entertainment. Sinking three spots in its sixth week in release, Blue Beetle made $1.8 million over the weekend, which was good enough to land it in ninth place. The film now claims a six-week tally of $69.8 million for Warner Bros. Finally, despite dropping a spot and landing in tenth place with $1.6 million in its tenth week of release, Oppenheimer still sports an impressive cumulative total of $321.2 million for Universal Pictures.

Three films were pushed out of the top ten this weekend. Despite cracking the list last weekend, Yash Raj Films USA Inc.’s Jawan failed to do so again in its second week of release, limiting its overall tally to $12.1 million. Gran Turismo has made $41.8 million for Sony Pictures Entertainment over the last five weeks, but it was unable to land in the top ten this weekend; instead finishing in twelfth place. Finally, Paramount Pictures’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem could not repeat a tenth-place finish this weekend, instead settling for eleventh and an eight-week tally of $116.3 million.
