Box-Office Weekend: Deadpool & Wolverine Back

A new, yet old, film claimed the top spot of the box-office weekend as Deadpool & Wolverine crept over Alien: Romulus to win the weekend by $2.1 million.

"Deadpool & Wolverine" posterIn its fifth weekend of release, the Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures product Deadpool & Wolverine reclaimed the number one slot of the top ten earning $18.3 million over the weekend. This gives the film a cumulative total of $577.2 million. Meanwhile, last weekend’s top film, Alien: Romulus, slipped to second place where it made $16.2 million for its studio – also Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures – lifting its two-week total to $72.6 million. Holding steady in the third spot was Sony Pictures Releasing’s It Ends with Us with $11.9 million. This gives the film a three-week total of $120.8 million. Debuting in fourth place was the thriller Blink Twice with $7.3 million. The second debut of the weekend, the Affirm Films offering of The Forge took in $6.6 million over the weekend, which was good enough to claim fifth place.

Dropping two spots to land in sixth place this weekend, Universal Pictures’ Twisters brought in $6.2 million for the studio, giving the film a six-week tally of $248.7 million. After debuting in fifth place last weekend, the Fathom Events 15th Anniversary release of Coraline dropped to seventh place where it took in $5.0 million to lift its two-week total to $24.1 million. The third debut of the weekend, Lionsgate Films remake of The Crow took in $4.6 million this weekend, landing it in eighth place. This was just enough to edge out Universal Pictures’ Despicable Me 4 which made $4.4 million over the weekend – and now boasts an eight-week total to $348.3 million. Finally, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures saw Inside Out 2 fall two spots to land in tenth place this weekend where it brought in $2.1 million, giving the film an impressive eleven-week total of $646.3 million.

Three films were forced from the box-office weekend top ten over the last three days. First of all, after claiming seventh place last weekend, the Warner Bros. product Trap leaves the top ten after four weeks in release and accumulating $38.6 million. Meanwhile, after debuting in the ninth spot last weekend, Stree 2 failed to crack the list this weekend, instead settling for a total of $2.6 million. Borderlands dropped from the top ten with an overall total of $15.2 million.
