Box-Office Weekend: Dog Man Becomes Top Dog

For a fifth consecutive weekend, a new film adorns the top of the box-office weekend as Dog Man debuted in first place by the sizable margin of $26.5 million.

“Dog Man” posterIn its first weekend in release, Dog Man took in $36.0 million for DreamWorks Distribution and easily claimed the top spot of this week’s top ten. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. saw its Companion debut in second place with $9.5 million. Last weekend’s second-place film, Mufasa: The Lion King however, dropped a spot to third place this weekend where it brought in $6.1 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, giving the film a seven-week total of $229.5 million. Sony Pictures Releasing saw One of Them Days fall one spot to claim fourth place this weekend with $6.0 million in its third week of release, bringing its overall total to $34.5 million. Unfortunately, this all dropped Lionsgate’s Flight Risk from the top spot last weekend all the way to fifth place this weekend where it brought in $5.6 million, giving the film a two-week total of $20.9 million.

Paramount Pictures saw its Sonic the Hedgehog 3 drop two spots to land in sixth place this weekend where it made $3.2 million for the studio, to bring the film’s seven-week tally to $230.5 million. Moana 2 also fell two spots to finish in seventh place this weekend with $2.8 million taken in for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. This brings the film’s ten-week total to $453.9 million. Holding its ground in the eighth spot of this weekend’s top ten was Searchlight Pictures’ A Complete Unknown with $2.2 million. The film now boasts a six-week total of $66.7 million. In its seventh week of release, The Brutalist climbed a spot to claim ninth place this weekend with $1.9 million, giving the A24 product and overall total of $12.1 million. Finally, Lionsgate saw Den of Thieves 2: Pantera land in tenth place with $1.6 million, after finishing in the ninth spot last weekend. The film now lays claim to a four-week total of $34.5 million.

Two films fell out of the top ten this weekend as last week’s sixth- and seventh-place films failed to make this week’s list. After finishing in sixth place last weekend, Neon’s Presence was not felt this weekend as it departed with a two-week total of $5.9 million. Meanwhile, Universal Pictures saw its reboot of Wolf Man drop from the top ten after amassing just $19.9 million in three weeks of release.
