Box-Office Weekend: “Fast X” Finishes First


Fast X easily beat Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to wrest the top spot of the box-office weekend by a difference of $35.5 million.

"Fast X" posterWith $67.5 million to show for its opening weekend, Fast X handily took control of the box-office weekend, besting two-time champion Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Despite falling to second place, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 did add $32 million over the weekend to bring its three-week total to $266.5 million. Meanwhile, The Super Mario Bros. Movie was relegated to a distant third place with $9.8 million, giving the film a seven-week total of $549.3 million. Also dropping a spot, was fourth-place Book Club: The Next Chapter which added $3.0 million in its second weekend of release to bring its overall total to $13.1 million. Meanwhile, Evil Dead Rise was forced to fifth place where it added $2.4 million over the weekend to bring its five-week total to $64.1 million.

Climbing a spot to finish in sixth place this weekend was John Wick: Chapter 4 as it added $1.3 million to raise its nine-week total to $185.3 million. Dropping two spots to a seventh-place finish was Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret with $1.3 million in its fourth week of release, bringing its overall total to $18.7 million. Falling from sixth- to a eighth-place finish this weekend was Hypnotic which added $825,000 this weekend to brings its two-week total to $4.1 million. In its third weekend of release, Love Again dropped one spot to finish in ninth-place with $400,000 over the weekend, giving the film a three-week total of $5.9 million. Finally, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves held onto the tenth spot of the top ten with $400,000 this weekend, giving the film an eight-week tally of $92.9 million.

Last weekend’s ninth-place film, Air, was the only film to get pushed from the top ten over the weekend. The film leaves after amassing $52 million over the past six weeks.
