Box-Office Weekend: Guardians Repeat On Top


For the second weekend in a row, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 held the top spot of the box-office weekend.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" posterBringing in $60.5 million over the weekend, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 easily retained control of the box-office weekend, besting the second-place film by $47.5 million. The film now boasts a two-week tally of $213.2 million. In second place, for the second weekend in a row, was The Super Mario Bros. Movie with $13.0 million. This gives that film a six-week total of $536.0 million. Meanwhile, Book Club: The Next Chapter debuted in third place with $6.5 million over the course of its opening weekend. This dropped Evil Dead Rise to fourth place where it added $3.7 million to bring its four-week total to $60.2 million. Falling a spot to finish in fifth place was Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret which added $2.5 million in its third weekend of release, bringing its overall total to $16.5 million.

Debuting in sixth place was Hypnotic with $2.4 million over the weekend. This pushed John Wick: Chapter 4 to a seventh-place finish where it added $1.9 million, bringing its eight-week total to $183.0 million. In its second weekend of release, Love Again fell two spots to land in eighth-place with $1.6 million. This gives the film a two-week tally of $5.0 million. Falling a spot to finish in ninth-place was Air which held on for another week in the top ten adding $768,000 to bring its six-week total to $51.6 million. Finally, dropping from seventh-place to finish in the tenth spot of the weekend box office, was Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves with $741,000 over the weekend. The film still sports a seven-week total of $92.2 million however.

Both of the ninth- and tenth-place films last weekend were ousted from the top ten this weekend. Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant departs after amassing $15.4 million over the last three weeks. Meanwhile, Sisu leaves with a three-week total of $6.7 million.
