Box-Office Weekend: Insidious Beats Indiana


Insidious: The Red Door displaced Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny as the top draw of the box-office weekend, by a narrow margin of $6.2 million.

"Insidious: The Red Door" posterWith an opening weekend tally of $32.7 million, Insidious: The Red Door claimed the number one spot of the top ten this weekend. This pushed last weekend’s top film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny to a second-place finish where it added $26.5 million to bring its overall total to $121.2 million. The second debut of the weekend, Sound of Freedom claimed third place with an $18.2 million showing over the weekend and an opening week total of $40.2 million. Dropping a spot to fourth was Elemental which added $9.6 million this weekend to bring its four-week total to $109.2 million. Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse dropped three spots to land in fifth place with $8.0 million over the weekend. This gives the film a six-week total of $357.6 million.

The final debut in the top ten this weekend, Joy Ride landed in sixth place with $5.9 million. After finishing in fourth-place last weekend, No Hard Feelings fell hard to a seventh-place finish this weekend with $5.3 million bringing its three-week total to $40.4 million. Similarly dropping down the scale of the top ten, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts fell three spots to an eighth-place finish with $5.0 million over the weekend. This gives the film a five-week total of $146.7 million. Meanwhile, The Little Mermaid dropped two spots to land in ninth place with $3.5 million. This gives the film a seven-week tally of $289 million. Finally, after claiming sixth-place last weekend, Ruby Gilman, Teenage Kraken fell four spots to land in tenth-place this weekend with $2.8 million. This gives the film a disappointing two-week total of $11.6 million.

This box-office weekend, the films in eighth-, ninth-, and tenth-place last weekend found themselves forced out of the top ten this week. After only four weeks, The Flash could only gather enough steam to eke out $2.21 million over the weekend, bringing its disappointing four-week total to $105.2 million. Meanwhile, Asteroid City managed to bring in slightly more than The Flash over the weekend with $2.23 million, lifting its four-week tally to $24.1 million. Finally, after ten weeks of stellar business, amassing $357.6 million, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 managed only $1.8 million this weekend, causing it to miss the top ten altogether.
