Box-Office Weekend: “Black Adam” Reigns

A new film sits atop the box-office weekend after Black Adam debuted with an impressive $50.7 million more than second-place finisher Ticket to Paradise.

The latest addition to the DC Extended Universe, Black Adam brought in $67.0 million in its first weekend of release. This was easily enough to best the film in second place, Ticket to Paradise, which brought in $16.3 million during its opening weekend. Although it was pushed from second-place, Smile still added $8.4 million over the weekend to claim third place and a four-week total of $84.3 million. Meanwhile, last weekend’s top film, Halloween Ends dropped to fourth place with $8.0 million to show for the weekend. The film now claims a two-week total of $54.2 million. Last weekend’s third-place film, Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, fell to fifth place with $4.2 million earned over the last three days. This gives the film a three-week total of $28.7 million.

Falling from fourth- to sixth-place was The Woman King, which added $1.9 million to lift its six-week total to $62.9 million. Just behind that was the horror film, Terrifier 2 which climbed two spots to finish in seventh place just behind The Woman King with $1.89 million. This lifts the film’s three-week total to $5.3 million. Falling from sixth to eighth this weekend was Don’t Worry Darling with $880,000 over the last three days. This gives the film a five-week total of $44.3 million. The weekend’s biggest fall belongs to Amsterdam however, which plummeted from fifth to a ninth-place finish this weekend with $818,000, bringing its three-week total to $13.9 million. Finally, making its debut in the top ten in its third week of release was Triangle of Sadness with $600,000 over the last three days and an overall total of $1.4 million.

Three films were pushed from the box-office weekend as Barbarian exists with a seven-week total of $40.1 million after finishing in seventh place last weekend. Similarly, Bros fell from the eighth spot last weekend with a four-week total of $11.5 million. And, finally, the behemoth of Top Gun: Maverick finally dropped from the top ten after bringing it’s twenty-two week total to $716.3 million, allowing it to remain entrenched in fifth place on the list of highest domestic grosses of all time.
