Box-Office Weekend: Captain America Threepeats
For a third consecutive weekend, Captain America: Brave New World has claimed the number one slot of the box-office weekend. This week the film bested newcomer Last Breath by a margin of $7.2 million.
In its third weekend of release, Captain America: Brave New World took in $15.0 million to retain its hold on the box-office weekend top ten as well as raise its overall total to $163.7 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Meanwhile, Focus Features saw Last Breath debut in second place with $7.8 million earned this weekend. Last weekend’s second-place film, The Monkey was forced to third place by the debut of Last Breath where it brought in $6.4 million for Neon to lift its two-week total to $24.6 million. Sony Pictures Releasing saw a similar drop in the standings for Paddington in Peru as the film fell from third to fourth this weekend where it added $4.5 million, raising its three-week total to $31.4 million. DreamWorks Distribution saw the animated Dog Man lose a spot this weekend as well and finish in fifth place with $4.2 million. This gives the film a five-week total of $84.1 million.
In its eleventh week in theaters, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures’ Mufasa: The Lion King jumped upward two spots to claim sixth place this weekend with $1.9 million. This brings the film’s overall tally to $248 million. This leapfrog of positions dropped Heart Eyes from sixth to seventh place this weekend where it took in $1.3 million for Paramount Pictures International, lifting the film’s four-week total to $28.9 million. Last weekend’s ninth-place finisher, The Unbreakable Boy managed to climb the top ten and gain one spot this weekend to finish in eighth place with $1.2 million, giving it a two-week total of $4.5 million. Similarly, the Sony Pictures Releasing product, One of Them Days made it out of a tenth-place finish last weekend to land in ninth place this week with $925,000. This gives the film a seven-week total of $47.5 million. Finally, GKIDS saw its latest offering Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX: Beginning debut in tenth place with a showing of $917,000 over the weekend.
One less film fell from the top ten this weekend than did seven days ago as two failed to repeat over the last three days, Both last week’s fifth- and seventh-place films dropped from this week’s top ten. After two weeks in release, CMC Pictures saw Ne Zha 2 bring in a total of $15.0 million for the studio after it managed to hang onto that spot over the previous two weekends. Finally, following two weeks in release and a seventh-place finish last weekend, Yash Raj Films’ Chhaava drops from the top ten with an overall total of $4.8 million taken in for the studio.
