Box-Office Weekend: Mickey Defeats the Captain
A new film took control of the box-office weekend as Mickey 17 ousted Captain America: Brave New World from the top spot by a $10.6 million margin.
With a three-day debut of $19.1 million, Mickey 17 easily took control of the box-office weekend top ten, giving Warner Bros. the top film this weekend. This, of course, pushed four-time box-office champ, Captain America: Brave New World to second place where it took in $8.5 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, bringing its four-week tally to $176.6 million. Meanwhile, Focus Features saw Last Breath fall to third place with $4.2 million taken in over the weekend, lifting the film’s two-week total to $14.7 million. In its third weekend of release, The Monkey fell to fourth where it made $3.9 million for Neon, while giving the film a $31 million overall total. Sony Pictures Releasing’s Paddington in Peru landed in fifth place where is made $3.85 million for the studio, raising its four-week total to $37.1 million in the process.
In its sixth weekend of release, DreamWorks Distribution’s Dog Man dropped a spot to land in sixth place where it added $3.5 million over the last three days to bring its overall total to $88.8 million. In its twenty-first week in release, the NEON product Anora cracked the top ten to land in seventh place this weekend with $1.9 million. This gives the film an overall total of $18.4 million. Falling two spots to land in eighth place this weekend, Mufasa: The Lion King took in $1.7 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, bringing the film’s twelve-week total to $250.5 million. Angel Studios saw its Rule Breakers break into the top ten in the ninth spot where it took in $1.6 million in its first weekend of release. Finally, the Viva Pictures product Night of Zoopocalypse cracked the top ten with $1.1 million over the weekend to claim the tenth and final spot this week.
This weekend saw four films forced from the top ten as last week’s seventh- through eighth-place films all succumbed to this weekend’s newcomers. After five weeks in release, the Screen Gems product Heart Eyes departs the top ten with a total of $29.9 million. After finishing in eighth place last weekend, The Unbreakable Boy leaves the top teen with a three-week tally of $5.7 million. The Sony Pictures Releasing offering One of Them Days also dropped from the top ten this weekend but not before amassing $48.5 million over the last eight weeks. Finally, after one weekend in release and bring in $882,471, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX: Beginning also exits this weekend’s top ten.
