Box-Office Weekend: Bloodlines Douses Marvel

A new film took control of the box-office weekend as Final Destination: Bloodlines unseated the incumbent Thunderbolts* by a margin of $34.5 million.

Final Destination: BloodlinesIn its first weekend of release, Final Destination: Bloodlines made $51.0 million for Warner Bros., allowing the film to easily take control of the weekend box-office. In a distant second-place, with $16.5 million, was last weekend’s top film, the Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures product Thunderbolts*. Still, the film boasts a three-week total of $155.4 million so all is not lost. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. also saw Sinners drop from second to third this weekend where it added $15.4 million, raising its five-week total to $240.8 million for the studio. That same studio enjoyed a fourth-place finish from A Minecraft Movie with $5.9 million. Even though the film dropped a spot from last weekend, it still sports a seven-week total of $416.6 million. After finishing in fourth place last weekend, the Amazon MGM Studios release The Accountant 2 claimed fifth place this weekend with $5.0 million, bringing its four-week total to $59.1 million.

Lionsgate enjoyed a $3.3 million debut from Hurry Up Tomorrow as well as a sixth-place finish in the top ten. In its second week of release, A24’s Friendship cracked the top ten to claim seventh place with $1.4 million, giving the film an overall total of $2.0 million. After debuting in fifth place last weekend, RLJ Entertainment’s Clown in a Cornfield dropped to eighth place this weekend, where it added $1.3 million, bringing its cumulative total to $6.3 million. Falling just one spot, to claim ninth place, was the Screen Gems release Until Dawn which added $800,000 over the weekend, bringing its four-week total of $19.6 million. Finally, the 20th Century Studios release, The Amateur also lost a spot, dropping to tenth place where it took in $712,000, bringing the film’s six-week total to $40.1 million.

Three films fell from last weekend’s top ten again this week. After claiming sixth place seven days ago, Shadow Force couldn’t maintain a spot on the top ten and instead forced Lionsgate to settle for a two-week total of $3.6 million. Vertical Entertainment’s Fight or Flight met a similar fate as it couldn’t hold onto its seventh-place finish from last weekend and limped away with a two-week total of $3.2 million for the studio. Finally, after six weeks in release, Angel Studios saw The King of Kings fall from the top ten, with an overall total of $59.8 million, after a tenth-place finish seven days ago.
