Box-Office Weekend: Indiana Jones Returns

After spending a single week atop the box-office weekend, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was vehemently removed from the top spot as Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny took control of the weekend by a margin of $48.5 million.

"Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" posterIn it’s first weekend of release, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny debuted at number one with $60.0 million over the weekend. This easily beat last weekend’s top film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse as that film could only muster $11.5 million over the weekend. In its first five weeks of release however, the film has brought in $339.9 million overall. Dropping from second to third was Pixar’s Elemental which finished just behind Across the Spider-Verse with $11.3 million, bringing its three0week total to $29.3 million. Holding its ground in fourth place was the Jennifer Lawrence-led No Hard Feelings with $7.5 million. This gives the film a two-week tally of $29.3 million. Also holding steady was Transformers: Rise of the Beasts in fifth place with $7.0 million. This gives the film a four-week total of $136.1 million.

The second debut of the weekend, Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken landed in sixth-place with $5.2 million over the weekend. Standing her ground and holding onto seventh-place was The Little Mermaid which added $5.15 million over the weekend to raise its six-week total to $281.0 million. Plummeting from third- to eighth-place this weekend was The Flash which only brought in $5.0 million in its third weekend of release, to lift its overall total to a disappointing $99.3 million. Elsewhere, in its third weekend, Asteroid City fell three spots to finish in ninth-place this weekend with $3.8 million. The film now claims an overall total of $18.1 million. Finally, after finishing in eighth-place last weekend, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 dropped two spots to land in tenth-place where it added $1.8 million over the weekend to raise its nine-week total to $354.9 million.

Two films departed the top ten of the box-office weekend over the last three days as both the ninth- and tenth-place films from last weekend were pushed out. The Blackening fell from ninth-place to off the list completely after garnering a three-week total of $15.4 million. Meanwhile, after five weeks, The Boogeyman scoots out of the top ten with a total gross of $41.1 million.
