Box-Office Weekend: Mean Girls Repeats

Mean Girls held onto the top spot of the box-office weekend for a second consecutive week, again slightly besting The Beekeeper by a mere $3.2 million.

"Mean Girls" posterIn its second weekend of release, Mean Girls brought in $11.7 million for Paramount Pictures, giving the film a two-week tally of $50.0 million. Meanwhile, The Beekeeper held onto second-place with $8.5 million in its second weekend as well. This gives that film an overall total of $31.1 million. Also holding steady from last weekend was Wonka which held onto third place with $6.4 million for Warner Bros. in its sixth weekend of release, lifting its overall total to $187.2 million. Last weekend’s fourth- and fifth-place films swapped places as Anyone But You took fourth with $5.4 million – bringing its five-week total to $64.2 million for Columbia Pictures – and Migration landed in fifth place with $5.3 million for Universal – giving it a five-week total of $94.7 million.

Elsewhere, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom managed to tread water and hold onto sixth place with $3.7 million. This gives the Warner Bros. product a five-week total of $114.2 million. Bleecker Street Media enjoyed a debut in seventh place for I.S.S. where it brought in $3.0 million for the studio in its first weekend of release. Meanwhile, the Universal Pictures International offering Night Swim fell a spot to land in eighth place where it added $2.7 million to lift its three-week total to $23.8 million. Also falling a spot to ninth place was The Boys in the Boat which took in $2.5 million in its four week in release, giving it an overall total of $43.9 million. Finally, clawing its way back into the top ten, Poor Things added $2.0 million this weekend to bring the Searchlight Pictures’ product seven-week tally to $20.4 million.

Finally, only two films were forced from the top ten this weekend as last week’s ninth- and tenth-place films failed to chart this weekend. After two weeks, Sony Pictures Entertainment’s The Book of Clarence departs with a total of $4.7 million. Meanwhile, The Iron Claw still managed to bring in $31.5 million for A24 over the last five weeks despite falling out of the top ten this weekend.
