Box-Office Weekend: “Mission: Impossible” On Top


A new film stands on top of the box-office weekend as Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One debuted at number one, $29.2 million ahead of the second-place finisher.

"Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning - Part One" posterWith an opening weekend of $56.2 million, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One easily took the weekend at the box-office. Additionally, the film brought in a total of $80 million over its first week in release. Climbing a spot from last weekend to finish in second-place was Sound of Freedom which added $27.0 million over the weekend to bring the film’s two-week total to $85.5 million. Meanwhile, Insidious: The Red Door dropped two spots to land in third place this weekend adding $13.0 million to raise its overall two-week total to $58.1 million. Falling two spots to finish in fourth place with $12.0 million was Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. This gives the sequel a three-week total of $145.4 million. After claiming fourth-place last weekend, Elemental was relegated to fifth this weekend with $8.7 million, giving the film a five-week overall total of $125.3 million.

Landing in sixth-place, after finishing in fifth last weekend, was Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, where it added $6.1 million, bringing its seven-week total to $368.8 million. Gaining a spot and finishing in seventh-place was Transformers: Rise of the Beasts as it brought in $3.4 million over the weekend to raise its six-week tally to $152.8 million. Swapping spots with that film was No Hard Feelings, which fell a spot to land in eighth-place with $3.3 million over the weekend. This gives the film a four-week total of $46.6 million. Dropping three spots to finish in ninth-place with $2.6 million over the weekend was Joy Ride. The film now lays dubious claim to a two-week total of $10.6 million. Finally, The Little Mermaid fell to tenth-place from ninth last weekend with $2.4 million earned this week, giving the film an eight-week total of $293.9 million.

Only one film was pushed out of the weekend box office as Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken was displaced after landing in tenth-place last week. The film departs the box-office weekend with a three-week total of $14.4 Million.
