For a third consecutive week, a new film has claimed the top spot of the box-office weekend top ten as director Chirstopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey debuted at number one by an impressive margin of $105.5 million.
In its first weekend in release, the latest film from Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey took control of first place of the box-office weekend top ten with an opening weekend tally of $124.5 million. This ended up being more than $100 million than the film needed to best second-place Moana which brought in $19.0 million over its second weekend in release as it dropped from first. The film still claims a two-week total of $82.1 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Meanwhile, Universal Pictures saw Minions & Monsters fall from second to third place where it brought in $14.8 million to bring the film’s three-week total to $137.6 million. Likewise, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures saw Toy Story 5 earn $14.8 million on its way to a fourth-place finish in its fifth week in release as its overall total rose to $430.9 million. Following a fourth-place finish last week, Evil Dead Burn fell to fifth as it made $5.0 million for Warner Bros. to bring the film’s two-week total to $24.2 million.
Retaining its hold on sixth place, The Invite managed to bring in $3.9 million over the weekend to lift its two-week total to $15.0 million for A24. Meanwhile, Angel’s Young Washington dropped two places to finish in seventh this week with $3.7 million, giving the film a three-week total of $41.0 million. Falling one spot, the Focus Features release, Obsession took over eighth place with $2.5 million. This raises the film’s ten-week total to $258.5 million. In its fourth weekend of release, the Warner Bros. product Supergirl fell a spot to land in ninth place where it made $1.5 million, to move its four-week total to $69.9 million. Finally, following a ninth-place finish last weekend, Universal Pictures’ Disclosure Day dropped to tenth place where it brought in $1.4 million for the studio to give the film a six-week total of $114.7 million.
Only one film was pushed out of the top ten this weekend’s list as the tenth-place film from seven days ago was edged out and relegated to eleventh place this weekend. The film departs the top ten with an eight-week total of $195.9 million earned for A24.
