Box-Office Weekend: Mercy Shows Avatar None

Box Office Weekend

For the first time in five weeks, a new film graces the top spot of the box-office weekend as Mercy debuted over the weekend and made just enough to push out reigning champion Avatar: Fire and Ash by $4.1 million.

In its first weekend of release, the Amazon MGM Studios release of Mercy successfully dethroned five-time champ Avatar: Fire and Ash by bringing in $11.1 million for the studio. Meanwhile, Fire and Ash could only muster $7.0 million for 20th Century Studios as the film fell to second place. Still, the film sports a six-week total of $378.5 million, so there might not me too many unhappy faces at the studio when all is said and done. The Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures release of Zootopia 2 held its ground in third place with $5.7 million over the weekend. This gives the film a nine-week total of $401.4 million. Also holding steady in its spot from last weekend, The Housemaid stayed in fourth place where it took in $4.3 million for Lionsgate to bring the film’s six-week total to $115.5 million. After debuting in second place last weekend, the Sony Pictures Releasing product 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple dropped to fifth place where it took in $3.5 million, giving the film a two-week total of $20.8 million.

After claiming fifth place last weekend, Marty Supreme fell to sixth place where it made $3.5 million for A24, giving the film a six-week total of $86.3 million. Debuting in seventh place was the Iconic Events Releasing product Return to Silent Hill which brought in $3.3 million. Climbing eight spots to crack the top ten in its ninth week in release was the Focus Features film Hamnet with $2.0 million in an eighth-place finish this weekend. Meanwhile, after debuting in seventh place last weekend, the 2026 re-release of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring dropped to ninth where it added $2.0 million to give the re-release a total of $5.9 million. Finally, after finishing in sixth last weekend, Primate plummeted to tenth place where it took in $1.6 million for Paramount Pictures International, bringing the film’s three-week total to $23.5 million.

This weekend, the bottom three films from last weekend’s top ten all dropped from this week’s list. After three weeks in release, Lionsgate’s Greenland 2: Migration failed to make the top ten cut after bringing in a total of $16.9 million for the studio. Following a ninth-place finish last weekend, Sony Pictures Releasing’s remake of Anaconda fell from the top ten with a five-week tally of $62.2 million. Finally, after six weeks in release and a tenth-place finish last weekend, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants couldn’t crack the top ten again this weekend, and instead forced Paramount Pictures International to settle for a six-week total of $69.6 million.
