Box-Office Weekend: Doctor Strange Stands Firm


For the third week in a row, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness remained on top of the box-office weekend, this week finishing $15.6 million ahead of the second-place film.

"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" posterThe good doctor, as in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, added $31.6 to its tally over the weekend to raise its three-week total to $342.1 million. The second-place film, Downton Abbey: A New Era debuted with a $16 million opening weekend. That pushed The Bad Guys to third place as it garnered $6.1 million in its fifth week in release. This gives the film a total of $74.4 million. Meanwhile, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 also dropped a spot, finishing in fourth place with $3.9 over the weekend. The sequel now sports a seven-week tally of $181 million. The second new film in this weekend’s top ten, Men, debuted in the fifth spot with $3.3 million.

Dropping a spot to finish in sixth place this weekend was Everything Everywhere All at Once which added $3.1 million in its ninth weekend of release to raise its total to $52.3 million. Similarly, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore fell a spot to finish in seventh place over the weekend with $1.9 million. This gives the film a six-week total of $93.1 million. Last weekend’s fourth-place finisher, Firestarter, suffered the biggest drop of the films remaining in the top ten as it only brought in $1.9 million, raising its two-week total to $7 million, and finishing in eighth place. Sandra Bullock and The Lost City finished in ninth place this weekend after claiming seventh place a week ago. The film added $1.5 million over the weekend to raise its nine-week total to $99.3 million. Finally, last weekend’s eighth-place finisher, The Northman, held on to finish in the tenth spot this weekend with $1 million. The film now has a five-week total of $33 million.

Again, two films were pushed from the box-office weekend top ten. Last weekend’s ninth-place film, Family Camp leaves in its second week of release with $2.7 million to show for its time in the spotlight. Meanwhile, Nicolas Cage and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent also fell from the top ten sporting a five-week total of $19.5 million.
