Box-Office Weekend: Dragon Ball Takes the Lead

There is a new film atop the box-office weekend, and it might not be the film most expected, as Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero took the top spot by $8.5 million to claim the number one ranking.

"Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero" posterAs Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero debuted at number one with $20.1 million over the weekend, it bested Idris Elba and Beast, which came in second place with $11.6 million in its first weekend of release. Meanwhile, this pushed Brad Pitt and Bullet Train to third place with $8.0 million. The action/comedy/thriller now sports a three-week total of $69.0 million. Dropping one spot to finish in fourth place over the weekend was Top Gun: Maverick which added $5.9 million over the weekend, allowing it to leapfrog over DC League of Super-Pets which bringing its thirteen-week total to $683.4 million, allowing it to pass Avengers: Infinity War to claim the sixth highest lifetime gross. Meanwhile, DC League of Super-Pets finished in fifth place with $5.8 million, bringing its four-week total to $67.5 million.

Dropping from fourth-place to sixth was Thor: Love and Thunder</em< which took in $4.0 million to bring its seven-week total to $332.1 million. This pushed Nope from fifth to seventh place as it added $3.5 million over the weekend to raise its five-week total to $113.8 million. Meanwhile, Minions: The Rise of Gru was pushed to eighth place with with $3.5 million just behind Nope as it brought its eight-week total to $350.0 million. While last weekend’s seventh-place finisher, Where the Crawdads Sing dropped a couple spots to finish in ninth place with $3.1 million, it also lifted its six-week total to $77.7 million. Finally, in its third weekend of release, the comedy/horror/thriller Bodies Bodies Bodies managed to bring in $2.4 million and finish in the tenth spot, raising its overall total to $7.4 million as it fell two spots since last weekend.

Again, two films were pushed from the weekend box-office top ten this time around as Elvis leaves the top ten after bringing in $144.8 million over the last nine weeks. Last weekend’s tenth-place film, Fall, stayed true to its name and fell from the top ten with a two-week total of $4.9 million.
