Box-Office Weekend: Michael Myers Cuts Bond in Half


The newest addition to the “Halloween” franchise knocked the latest Bond film from the top spot of the box-office weekend as Halloween Kills debuted at number one it its opening weekend.

The return of Michael Myers boasted a $50.4 million opening weekend, dropping No Time To Die to second place by half. Daniel Craig’s 007 managed to bring in another $24.3 million, lifting the film’s two-week total to $99.5 million. Meanwhile, Venom: Let There Be Carnage also fell a spot in the top ten, finishing in third with $16.5 million and a three-week tally of $168.1 million.

Similarly dropping one spot was the animated family offering The Addams Family 2, which added $7.2 million to give it a three-week total of $42.3 million. The second debut of the weekend, the historical drama The Last Duel, starring Jodie Comer, earned $4.8 million in its first weekend of release to finish firmly in fifth place of this week’s top ten.

In its seventh week in release, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings fell from fourth to sixth place with $3.5 million over the weekend. The film now boasts a total of $218.1 million. The third debut in this week’s top ten, Honsla Rakh, took the seventh spot with $706,000 over the weekend. Dropping two spots to finish in eighth place, earning $680,000 over the weekend was Free Guy, starring Ryan Reynolds, which now sports a ten-week total of $120.8 million. In its second week of release, the horror/mystery Lamb added $543,000 over the weekend to give it a two-week total of $2.0 million. Finally, the fourth debut of the weekend box-office, Most Eligible Bachelor, made $470,000 in its first week of release.

A total of four films found their way out of the top ten this weekend. These were: The Many Saints of Newark (which managed to bring in $7.9 million during its theatrical release), Dear Evan Hansen (which bows out with a four-week run of $14.6 million), Candyman (the horror film leaves sporting a $60.8 total million over eight weeks), and Met Opera: Boris Godunov (which earned $387,000).
