A new film took control of the box-office weekend as The Devil Wears Prada 2 dethroned the King of Pop biopic by a margin of $23.0 million.

“THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2” posterThe sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2 debuted in first place of the box-office weekend where it took in $77.0 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. This pushed last weekend’s top film, Lionsgate’s Michael to second place where it made $54.0 million in its second week of release, bringing the film’s two-week total to $183.8 million. Meanwhile, the Universal Pictures release The Super Mario Galaxy Movie dropped to third place where it made $12.1 million, bringing the film’s five-week total to $402.7 million. Project Hail Mary also fell a spot to claim fourth place this weekend with $8.6 million, bringing the film’s seven-week total to $318.3 million for Amazon MGM Studios. Neon saw its release, Hokum, claim fifth place with a $6.4 million debut this weekend.

The Angel release, Animal Farm, debuted in sixth place with $3.4 million. Falling three spots from fourth place, to land in seventh place over the weekend, Lee Cronin’s The Mummy made $2.23 million giving it a three-week total of $27.4 million. Eighth place was claimed by the Magenta Light Studios release which debuted with $2.2 million over the weekend. Similarly, the Sony Pictures Releasing product, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea debuted in ninth place with $1.0 million. Finally, after a fifth-place finish seven days ago, A24’s The Drama dropped to tenth place this weekend where it brought in $908,305 for the studio – lifting the film’s five-week total to $46.9 million.

Last weekend’s sixth- through tenth-place films were all pushed out of this weekend’s top ten. After nine weeks in release, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures’ Hoppers brought in a total of $165.3 million for the studio before bowing out of the top ten. Meanwhile, after making $18.5 million over the last four weeks for Universal Pictures, You, Me & Tuscany couldn’t maintain a hold on seventh place and instead fell out of the top ten. Following an eighth-place finish last weekend, the IFC Films release, Over Your Dead Body couldn’t remain in the top ten and instead had to settle for a two-week total of $2.1 million. Following three week in release that yielded a total of $2.3 million for A24, Mother Mary failed to remain in the top ten this weekend. Finally, after cracking the top ten last weekend, American Youngboy departs the list this weekend with an overall total of $1.2 million.
