Box-Office Weekend: Shang-Chi Remains King of the Box Office

Yet again, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, maintained the top spot of the the box-office weekend in remarkably easy fashion, bringing in over $16 million more than its nearest competition.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings posterFor the third consecutive week, the Marvel juggernaut finished in first place. This week, the film added $21.7 million to give it a three-week total of $176.9 million. Meanwhile, last week’s second-place finisher, Ryan Reynolds and Free Guy, held firm in the second spot again this week, adding $5.2 million, to give the film a six-week total of $108.6 million. Third place belonged solely to the latest film from director Clint Eastwood, Cry Macho. The filmmaker’s most recent foray into the western milieu brought in $4.5 million in it first week of release. Holding steady in the fourth spot of this week’s countdown was Candyman, which added $3.5 million over the weekend to garner a four-week total of $53.2 million.

Dropping from third to fifth place this weekend was Malignant, which finished just behind it horror adversary Candyman with $2.7 million. This gives the film a two-week total of $9.8 million as it seems destined to suffer a quick exit from the top ten in the very near future and hopefully make most of its revenue via online sources. The second debut this weekend, the crime thriller, Copshop, finished in sixth place with $2.3 million over its opening weekend. Rolling down the river two spots to seventh place was Disney’s Jungle Cruise, which, despite boasting an eight-week total of $112.6 million, still only managed $2.1 million over the weekend. Also falling two spots this weekend was the animated film PAW Patrol: The Movie, which took eighth place with $1.8 million, while lifting its five-week total to $37.1 million. The third new film in this week’s top ten, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, debuted in the ninth spot, bringing in $675,000.

Finally, falling from seventh to tenth place in the weekend box-office was the horror sequel, Don’t Breathe 2, which finished just behind The Eyes of Tammy Faye with $665,000, giving the film a six-week total of $31.3 million as it seems ready to make its exit from the top ten.
