Box-Office Weekend: Super Pets Claim Crown


Both Jordan Peele’s Nope and Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder were bested by newcomer DC League of Super Pets which took the top spot of the box-office weekend by $4.5 million.

"DC League of Super Pets" posterThe animated heroes of the DC League of Super-Pets> debuted atop the box-office weekend bringing in $23.0 million. This bested last weekend’s top film, Nope, which took in $18.5 million in its second weekend of release to lift it’s total to $80.6 million. Meanwhile, Thor: Love and Thunder was pushed to third place with $13.1 million in its fourth weekend of release. The Marvel film now sports a grand total of $301.5 million. Similarly slipping a spot to finish in fourth place over the weekend was the animated sequel Minions: The Rise of Gru. The film took in $10.9 million in its fifth weekend in release to bring it’s total to $320.4 million. Holding steady in fifth place was Top Gun: Maverick, which added $8.2 million over the weekend to bring its ten-week total to an impressive $650.1 million.

Falling from fourth to sixth place was the well-received Where the Crawdads Sing which took in $7.5 million in its third weekend of release to bring it total so far to $53.5 million. Dropping a spot to finish in seventh was Elvis, which added $5.8 million and brings the Elvis Presley biopic’s six-week total to $129.0 million. Holding steady in eighth-place was the horror film The Black Phone which added $2.5 million over the weekend to raise its six-week total to $83.1 million. Also standing firm in its position from last weekend was Jurassic World Dominion which held the ninth spot with $2.1 million. This gives the latest film in the “Jurassic Park” series an eight-week total of $369.5 million. Finally, the comedy/mystery/thriller Vengeance debuted in tenth place over the weekend bringing in $1.8 million in its first weekend of release.

Two films were forced from the weekend box-office top ten during the passed three days. After finishing in seventh place last weekend, Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank finished in twelfth place and leaves with a three-week total of $16.9 million. Meanwhile, Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris similarly dropped from the top ten to finish just ahead of Paws of Fury in eleventh place sporting a two-week total of $6.8 Million.
