Box-Office Weekend: “Wakanda Forever” Claims Throne

Even though Black Panther: Wakanda Forever debuted with an astounding $180.0 million domestic opening over the box-office weekend, it failed to match the $202 million that Black Panther brought in during its opening weekend back in 2018. Still, it eclipsed the weekend’s second-place film by $173.2 million.

"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" posterThe latest entry to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever enjoyed an opening in first place with a commanding $181.3 million. In a very distant second place, Black Adam brought in $8.1 million in its fourth weekend in release. Despite being pushed from the top spot, the film still lays claim to an overall tally of $150.6 million. Holding steady in third place over the weekend was the Julia Roberts/George Clooney film Ticket to Paradise which added $5.9 million to bring its four-week total to $56.3 million. Climbing a few spots to finish in fourth place after claiming sixth last weekend, Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile brought in $3.2 million, lifting its six-week total to $40.8 million. Falling a spot to land in fifth place was the horror film Smile with $2.3 million. This gives the film a seven-week total of $102.8 million.

Dropping from fifth to sixth over the weekend, the horror film Prey for the Devil added $1.9 million to bring its three-week total to $16.9 million. After debuting in the top ten last weekend, The Banshees of Inisherin held its ground in seventh place with $1.7 million. This gives the film a four-week total of $5.7 million to boast about. Meanwhile, last weekend’s second-place film, One Piece Film: Red plummeted all the way to finish in eighth-place this weekend. The film added $1.4 million over the weekend to raise its two-week total to $12.8 million. This activity pushed Till down a spot to a ninth-place finish with $608,000 over the weekend. The film now has a five-week total of $8.0 million. Finally, after being pushed from the top ten two weeks ago, Tár returns to land in tenth place with $383,00 over the weekend, bring its overall total to $4.6 million.

Two films were again forced out of the box-office weekend top ten as both ninth- and tenth-place films were dispatched. Halloween Ends exits the top ten with a five-week total of $64.0 million. Meanwhile, after six-weeks amassing $10.1 million, Terrifier 2 also takes its leave of the top ten.
